Electron Beam Welding:

    • This technique is used for joining of high strength, high melting point and high thickness materials, where more precision joint are produced
    • By applying a tungsten electrode at high temperatures electrons are emitted
    • These electrodes will be directed towards the anode
  • Depending on position of the anode electrons are associated and they come out of annular anode
  • By creating the magnetic field using the field electrons, they converge as single ray of electron beam which is focusing on the work piece at a given point
  • Due to which heat concentration on the work piece will be very high and the depth of penetration is maximum
  • Due to small diameter of the electron beam weld bead width is very small and depth of penetration is maximum
  • Depending on the thickness of the material and the melting point temperature of the material, the potential difference between cathode and anode, distance between cathode and anode is controlled
  • Due to scattering of the electrons with atmospheric gases energy of the electrons will be reduced and they do not focus on the work surface as an electron beam
  • To overcome this, the process is carried out under vacuum conditions
  • The same setup is used for high strength and high melting point materials cutting as well.
